Intro

Set on seeing a piece of the Americas while travelling mainly on my touring bike, I am interested in environmental issues & a vegan and it’s an important part of how I will travel. I hope to exchange with a lot of people and help with various projects.

I am nuts about rock-climbing too, and would love to connect with fellow climbers along my route.

I went for a nice bicycle ride a few days ago to Kingston. Beautiful views like on picture 2 along the coast and there was a decent bicycle lane and some fun low gradients. I also snorkelled (not for long, the water was pretty cold and I didn't have a wetsuit). Saw some starfishes and fishes, and other colourful things among the algae. Didn't see seahorses though which are meant to be around sometimes. I also observed on the rocks some unknow echinodermata (pics 7,8) and jelly blobs/caramel custards like creatures (9) who might be sea anemones (?) from what I have seen online. Tassie has awesome beaches in any case. Pics 1 and 10 are from Boronia beach, 3, 4, 5, 6 are from Kingston Beach. #underwater #seacreatures

In Australia it can be hard to make the difference between genuine wildlife sanctuaries and zoos that call themselves wildlife sanctuaries. I'm happy to say I was glad to visit Bonorong who is making a great job of rehabilitating native animals and keeping the ones that can't be released. Pics 1-3 show Kommit the 7-month old wombat, 4-5 Tassie devils and 6 a quoll who isn't exactly showing a typical behaviour- most of them are well hidden when they nap. #bonorongwildlifesanctuary #vegantravel #tassiewildlife

Some belated pics of the stunning Tasman Peninsula. I went there and did a short hike, to Cape Hauy, with a local a couple weeks ago. Towards the middle of pic1 slightly on the left is the slender sea stack "the Totem pole", and the mighty Candlestick is behind. The Totem Pole is also the site of British climber Paul Pritchard 1998 nearly fatal accident. It's incredible to think his partner at the time ran the steep 8km with so many up and down stairs track to Fortescue Bay in less than an hour to get help. Disabled, he has since climbed it with a support team. Pic 2 shows the imposing Devil's Kitchen and 8,9,10 the Tesselated pavement. For once in the few last X-mas it's nice to have access to a full kitchen as I am housesitting over the holiday period. Some snippets of cycling Mt Wellington up and down last week. 45kms roundtrip from downtown Hobart. It looks much smoother than it actually was- It took me 4+hours to climb to the top. Less than 1 hour to get all the way back down ! Next time I need to remember to take another battery for my Gopro as the views are fantastic. The video doesn't do justice as it's hard to edit in a format and size compatible with my phone/Instagram. Well, next time I might take another route too as there are a bunch of hiking and MTB trails on the mountain.
